With the Festive Season fast approaching, the Chesterfield Canal Trust reports that “mince pies are being ordered, the elves are smartening up their uniforms and Santa himself is practising his steering skills” as the Trust prepares for the start of its Santa Special cruises – and these trips are popular, so you’ll need to book in good time.

Santa Claus dispenses presents and festive spirit on one of the Chesterfield Canal Trust’s four trip-boats

The man in red will be spreading his duties across all four of the Trust’s trip-boats operating from four different bases in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – the Hollingwood Hub near Staveley, Shireoaks near Worksop, the Chequers Inn at Ranby, and Tapton Lock on the outskirts of Chesterfield.

The trips run on weekends from 26-27 November to 17-18 December and also on 22 and 23 December. The fare is £9 with all proceeds going to support the Trust’s work to restore the canal – you can read all about the latest progress on bringing the canal back to life in our restoration article here.

The fare includes a present for every child and a mince pie and a drink for every adult. But booking is essential as many of the trips sell out – follow this link to book online.

And there’s more…

Chesterfield Canal Trust isn’t the only organisation running ‘Santa Special’ Christmas boat trips: down in the south the Wey & Arun Canal Trust are running trips on the first three weekends in December and also on the weekdays leading up to Christmas – to book your place click here.
