One of our greatest rivers, the Trent is navigable from Shardlow above Nottingham to the Humber at Trent Falls. It is still regularly used for commercial freight transport in its lower reaches and boaters should keep a good look-out for large loaded gravel barges. Further upstream, the river passes through the historic town of Newark and the busy city of Nottingham, and many miles of attractive scenery in between. The river also provides a number of useful connections including routes to the Yorkshire rivers, to the Chesterfield Canal, and to the Fossdyke and Witham navigations. Downstream of Cromwell Lock (below Newark) the river is tidal, and appropriate precautions should be taken.95 miles 13 locksMaximum dimensions: length 81ft, beam 14ft 6in
