This striking new bridge over the Forth & Clyde Canal in Glasgow has been given the go-ahead as part of a plan to “connect communities to town centres, encourage healthy living and active travel and provide safer routes to facilities and schools by reducing exposure to traffic”. Originally proposed some ten years ago but stalled due to funding issues, the bridge will carry towpath users over the canal where the Glasgow Arm meets the Main Line to the north of the city centre at Stockingfield Junction, and where currently the only link between the canals for those not travelling by boat is under a narrow road aqueduct with inadequate footways.
