Extension given the go ahead for another basin at Oxfordshire marina
Plans to build a third basin at Cropredy Marina have been approved by the Cherwell District Council.
The number of moorings will increase to 349, up from 249, and there will be a new car park and swing bridge. Construction is expected to begin in March 2018.
Since opening in 2013, Cropredy Marina on the Oxford has proven a popular spot for boaters due to its location and access to the Thames at nearby Oxford. There is a waiting list for its current spaces.
There had been concerns that some of the moorings were being used by permanent liveaboards, which is in breach of planning rules, and but the council decided an expanded marina would support tourism and the rural economy of the area.
‘The proposed development is of a scale, siting and appearance which would not be considered to unduly harm the visual amenities of the locality, the historical importance of the canal conservation area and its setting,’ read the council’s conclusion.
