CHELMER & BLACKWATER NAVIGATION

A picturesque but isolated Essex river navigation, the Chelmer & Blackwater has recently been rescued from bankruptcy and is now run by The Inland Waterways Association. IWA has already carried out much work and hopes to improve the state of the navigation further in forthcoming years. The upper terminus of the canal is close to the centre of Chelmsford and the lower end at Heybridge opens onto the Blackwater estuary with sailing barges often to be seen, while the thirteen miles in between are almost entirely rural.14 miles 12 locksMaximum dimensions: length 60ft, beam 16ft
