Ashby Canal

THE ASHBY CANALThe quiet, rural Ashby Canal never actually reached Ashby de la Zouch – it came to an end near the village of Moira. The last few miles were closed due to coal-mining subsidence, and the canal now provides just over twenty miles of quiet lock-free cruising from Marston Junction on the Coventry Canal to near Snarestone. The coalmines that damaged the canal are now long gone, the area is now part of the new National Forest, and the abandoned sections of canal are now being gradually rebuilt and reopened.Main navigable section: 22 miles no locksMaximum dimensions: length 72ft, beam 7ft
