June Gatherings

 Foxton Locks Festival, 29-30 June

29-30 June IWA Thwaite Mills Boat Gathering As part of the Leeds Annual Waterfront Festival 29-30 June, the West Riding Branch of the IWA is hosting a Boat Gathering on the Aire and Calder Navigation at Thwaite Mills Watermill Museum, Stourton. Boaters’ evening events include a barbecue (Friday) and a quiz (Saturday). A vintage bus will take visitors to the city centre, where other events will be taking place along the waterfront, including Dragon Boat races. See tinyurl.com/wrthwaite or email elaine.scott@waterways.org.uk. Also leedswaterfrontfestival.com for the main event. 29-30 June Foxton Locks Festival Look out for the Viking re-enactment group clashing swords and shields; the real ale tent; live music (including late into the evening on the Saturday). You could always help some weary crews making their way up and down the challenging Foxtron Locks flight, or sit and watch them as you relax in one of the canal-side pubs or cafe. All proceeds from the festival support the trust restoring the Inclined Plane boat lift. There will be working models, and experts on hand to tell you more. Visit www.foxtonlocksfestival.co.uk
