Boating tourism is on the rise according to figures released recently
Boating tourism in general is on the rise, and in particular inland boating, according to figures recently released by overall national marine trade body British Marine.
BM highlighted the £228.6m that its report says are generated in sales from inland boating tourism, £173.7m that it contributes to the UK economy, and 4316 full-time jobs that it supports across the country - with employment within inland marinas rising by 26 percent over the past five years. Although it felt that "concerns" about waterway maintenance and "uncertainty surrounding Brexit" continued to "perturb the sector", the organisation credited "the UK's recovery from the financial crisis" for an increase in leisure spending, while BM's Chief Executive Officer Lesley Robinson said that "the depreciation of sterling" following the 2016 EU referendum had "helped this success by promoting domestic and inbound tourism".
