Art is rubbish!

Archant

That might be some folks’ opinion of modern art, but it was literally true in Manchester recently.

Art Dredge was an exhibition of art works made from junk dredged out of the Rochdale Canal, to draw attention to the environmental damage of fly-tipping. It involved volunteers salvaging bikes, trolleys, mopeds, safes, a TV and other rubbish from the Rochdale Canal in Newton Heath during a winter stoppage, then (after a good clean) it was transformed into pieces of work by artists Donna Bramall (whose work is pictured) Jason Heppenstall and Matt Sewell for the exhibition in Piccadilly Place in Manchester.

The works were offered for sale, with part of the proceeds going to a charity working with young people along the canal.
