River Canal Rescue still has spaces on its two-day maintenance courses, running on 9/10 and 23/24 July, 6/7 and 20/21 August, and 3/4 and 17/18 September; and its engine electrics course on 10/11 September.

Held at RCR’s Stafford HQ near bridge 101 on the Staffs & Worcs Canal, the boat and engine maintenance course covers how to maintain diesel engines and a narrowboat’s systems, including propulsion, cooling, engine servicing and fault finding. It costs £300, with an additional charge of £15 for RYA certificates.

The £340 electrical session is for boaters with experience in this area or maintenance course past attendees, and covers engine room electrical systems, cable sizing, battery types/sizes and split charging.

Both courses are run by RCR’s Kerry Horton and Dave Bull – long-standing RCR employees with a wealth of knowledge and experience – plus senior engineers/electrical specialists.
