WORCESTER & BIRMINGHAM CANAL

The most memorable feature of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal for most people must be the locks – 58 of them, all concentrated into the southern fifteen miles from Tardebigge to Worcester. But there is attractive countryside to compensate for the hard work of all the locks, and after Tardebigge Top Lock there are 15 miles of level lock-free cruising (including four of the canal’s five tunnels) as the canal pursues a secretive route into the centre of Birmingham.30 miles 58 locksMaximum dimensions: length 72ft, beam 7ft
