New Waterways Minister

Huw Irranca-Davies has been appointed as the new Waterways Minister, replacing Jonathan Shaw who has moved to the Department for Work and Pensions in the Cabinet reshuffle.
Irranca-Davies was elected to the seat of Ogmore in the South Wales Valleys in a by-election in 2002. He was appointed as Government Whip for Wales in May 2006, before becoming a Junior Minister in the Wales Office in 2007.
Since his election he has has sat on the Procedures Select Committee to discuss ways of modernising the work of Parliament and has also sat on Standing Committees for the Police Reform Bill, Fireworks Bill and Communications Bill, among others.
In May 2006 he was appointed to the Government as Assistant Government Whip, before being promoted to the Ministerial position of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Wales Office in 2007.
