i just go this engine it has a ms2 gear box an angle gear box can you run a springer 36 on a prop that is at an angle i have a md5 7 hp volvo in at mo but don't think it be strong enough could i swap gear boxs i dont know so hard i live in northren ireland wer i am am the only narrow not much help can you help email me please j.mccormick201@btinternet.co

To be honest I have no idea. I thought the MS2 box was used across a range of engines so it may well be OK but there are other things to consider like the reduction ratio of the two boxes (if they were available with different ratios). It is common on wooden or GRP cruisers and yachts to have a down angled propshaft so if that is what you mean by the prop being on an angle it should again be OK AS LONG you ensure the angle is within the maximum allowed by Volvo. As small V bottomed Springers run with very modest outboards you may well find the MD5 will do the job. I have some doubts about trying it on the Shannon when in flood, but I am not sure I would try that in any narrowboat, let alone a Springer. Tony Brooks
