REGENTS CANAL
The Regents Canal passes right through central London on its nine-mile journey from Little Venice to Limehouse. Although a part of the amalgamation that created the Grand Union Canal in 1929, the Regents is still often regarded as a separate waterway. Despite its closeness to the city centre, much of the canal runs through a world of its own, cut off from the city streets by buildings and high walls. It does show its public side too – at Camden Lock Market and Little Venice – and the Kings Cross development looks likely to open up more of the canal to public view. The Regents forms part of the London Ring, a circuit of over 40 miles including parts of the Thames and Grand Union main line and taking in many of the city’s sights.
