RIBBLE LINK NAVIGATION
Opened in 2002, the Ribble Link is Britain’s first entirely new waterway for almost a century, and the only one so far to be created entirely for pleasure boat traffic. It is based on the Savick Brook which was widened, deepened, straightened and provided with new locks to enable boats to use it. The Link provides a connection between the main system and the Lancaster Canal, which until then had only been accessible by sea.

But note: (a) craft 72ft by 14ft cannot pass – whether a boat will fit the canal is determined by a combination of length, beam and draught; (b) craft over about 62ft (depending on beam) will not be able to reach the Ribble Link from the Leeds & Liverpool canal due to the size of the locks on the Rufford Branch.
