GRAND UNION CANAL
Formed by an amalgamation of several canal companies in 1929, the Grand Union Canal’s main line forms the direct route from the Thames in West London to Birmingham. The canal passes through over 150 locks as it climbs over three successive summits, and there are major tunnels at Blisworth and Braunston. Among the canal’s many attractions are the Canal Museum at Stoke Bruerne and the canal village of Braunston. Branches connect the main line to the towns of Aylesbury and Northampton and to Paddington Basin in the heart of London.
