A new piece of street art along the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal has been designed to welcome boaters and visitors to the city of Birmingham.

The new sign was designed by street artist David Brown and can be found along the canal at Snow Hill Bridge, Digbeth. The sign covers over unsightly graffiti tags and scribbles in an effort to give a warm welcome to people visiting the waterways in the area.

Nick Cleaver, from the Canal & River Trust, said: “This section of canal was looking really unloved as it had been constantly attacked by graffiti vandals. Despite the best efforts of our volunteers to clean off the graffiti it just kept coming back. With this new piece of canal art we will hopefully discourage people from spraying and instead inspire them to join legitimate street art organisations where they can create artwork on designated walls along the waterways and surrounding areas.”

What are your thoughts on the street art? David Brown, from Graffiti Artist.com, said: “We have some real artistic talent in our local community and it’s been great having the opportunity to work with local organisations to showcase our talents. Hopefully this new mural will highlight just how beautiful street art can be.”
