Fire crews rushed to Kennet and Avon and Canal after being alerted of the fire at 3:30am. The fire was so severe that were unable to board the boat safely.

In what is believed to have been an accident a man living on his canal boat on the K&A in Bradford upon Avon has died in a fire on board in the early hours of Sunday morning. The boat was moored at the canal-side, but the fire was so severe that the fire crews were unable to board the craft, even with the assistance of breathing apparatus.

The emergency services were called to the scene after a passer-by noticed that the canal boat was on fire, the fire-fighters remained at the scene for nearly twelve hours. They found the man’s remains inside the hull of the vessel; his identity has not yet been identified.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious but the victim has been taken to a local hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out and an investigation is currently underway by the Wiltshire Police.
